About us

As the region’s leading funeral director, Midlands Co-operative Funeral Services has been providing a caring and sympathetic service for almost 100 years throughout the region.

With 76 funeral homes, we are able to offer an excellent service to the communities we serve. Our staff members live within the local community and are aware of its traditions and local customs. They have well established relationships with local clergy, doctors, solicitors, local authorities, traders and bereavement groups – people we can call on to help you through your time of loss.

We understand that a time of loss is a time of need. When people are grieving it is the aim of our funeral directors and administrators to relieve as much of the pressure as possible. There are many aspects of funeral arrangements – sometimes requiring difficult choices – and the dedicated staff hope to make the process easier by offering expert advice in a caring, respectful manner.

When you choose Midlands Co-operative Funeral Services you can be assured that every aspect of the funeral arrangements will be carried out with the utmost dignity and respect to the wishes of the client.

24-hour care
Our promise to you is that when you need us, we’ll be there. We are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Should you need our services out of normal business hours, simply call your local Midlands Co-op funeral home and someone will be available to help.

The role of a funeral director
The role of the funeral director is to arrange for care of the deceased and offer guidance and support to the family, make the necessary arrangements for the funeral service, and provide caring professional advice.

Your funeral director will organise collection of your loved one from a hospital, nursing home or home address, and transport to the chosen funeral home.

All necessary preparation and care will be provided, and a private chapel of rest will be made available. Family and friends may then arrange to visit and pay their last respects in a peaceful setting.

Your funeral director will guide you through legal processes such as registering a death and assist with paperwork, ensuring that any necessary forms and certificates are completed and sent out. They will make contact with the churchyard or cemetery, and arrange the date and time of the funeral.

There are fees involved with the arrangement, known as disbursements and these are paid on your behalf by the funeral director.

Floral tributes and newspaper announcements can be arranged if you require them.

On the day of the funeral, a hearse will transport your loved one, followed by any limousines you require, to the place of the service. The funeral service will be conducted under the professional guidance of your funeral director.

After the funeral, a fully itemised account will be sent to you, and your funeral director will be available to answer any questions you may have at this time.

How we are monitored
To ensure that we are maintaining the correct standards in funeral care we are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and adhere to a strict code of practice.

We are also monitored by the Funeral Planning Authority. The Funeral Planning Authority is the self-regulatory body set up by the Funeral Planning Council Limited and the National Association for Pre-Paid Funeral Plans to ensure that:

  • Funeral plan providers that are regulated by the Authority (“Plan Providers”) maintain high standards of professional conduct; and
  • The money that customers pay to a Plan Provider for a funeral plan is safeguarded so that, when the time comes, their funeral will be provided in accordance with that plan.

Modern premises
Midlands Co-operative Funeral Services is committed to ensuring that our funeral homes are comfortable, modern and well maintained. Our premises are regularly refurbished so that they are tastefully decorated and have all necessary facilities and accommodation.

Vehicles
Our fleet of vehicles are regularly updated and are specifically designed for use within the funeral profession. They are serviced and maintained on a regular basis to ensure their reliability and your comfort. Our drivers receive training in the safe handling of a funeral limousine, ensuring your own safety and that of your relatives and friends.
